INCORPORATING a Boer Goat Production Sale to the mix of the fifth annual Cobar Ram Sale was a positive move with a strong field of over 300 buyers in attendance of the event.
RAMS HIT RECORDS
A new record top price of $7800 was etched into the sale's history books as buyers met a much stronger market this year, on the back of high meat values. This was up $3800 on last year's high-price of $4000.
Dorper rams averaged $3016, up $1000 on the last, with 101 sold from 114 catalogued.
Studs offering rams included Dell Dopers, Prieska Dorpers, Kaya Dorpers, Bulmar Dorpers, Western Plains Dorpers, Belowrie Dorpers, Annalara Dorpers, Etiwanda Dorpers, Burrawang Dorpers, Wirlinga Park Dorpers, Kerrigundi Dorpers, Matchless Dorpers, Iron Rock Dorpers and Youlden Valley Dorpers.
Over 15 rams sold above $5,000 and 27 rams were sold in the $4000 to $5000 price range. The majority of the offering sold between $2000 to $3500.

Dell Dorpers sold the top-priced ram, Dell 200216 for $7800 to Queensland based buyers Smit Dorpers, Roma.
Dell's draft of 12 rams averaged $5383.
Repeat buyers from the western division, the Old Family of Bourke, took a trailer full of the rams home.
Etiwanda White Dorpers sold five to average $3680 with their top ram selling to $4200. Annalara White Dorpers sold their draft of 10 rams to average $3200 and a top of $4000 twice. Kerrigundi White Dorpers had a great day with their consignment of four averaging $2200.
The Sheepmaster breed had an introduction into the sale this year with 12 rams on offer from the Montarna, Wild Oat and Janaree studs.
The top-priced Sheepmaster, Janaree 20759, made $2200 and was purchased Elders Mudgee client Gooree Park.
Bulmar Ultra Whites were also on offer and the attendees were impressed by the length and capacity of the display sires penned outside. Ultra White rams topped at $6400 and averaged $4600.
BOER GOAT FIRST
Offered at the sale for the first time were 24 purebred standard Boer does and 14 full-blood standard Boer bucks on behalf of Dusty Downs, Hermidale and Davrik Boers.
A total clearance of the registered does topped at $400, while the unregistered purebreds sold for $300 and the bucks topped at $750.

Dusty Downs tag 355 from the Dusty Downs stud, Hermidale, was the $400 top-priced stud registered doe purchased by GJ and FR Hudson.
The $750 top-priced buck was an August-drop purebred, weighing 58 kilograms from the Davrik Boer Goat stud, Cobar. It was purchased by Brad Purdy of Baradine.
"It was a very strong sale overall," agent Luke Scales said. "Most of the western districts are having a strong season and the higher meat prices are helping with the sale outcomes, the competition is strong."
Selling agents were Nutrien Russell with John Settree manning the rostrum.
