NSW records 825 cases, only 92 in isolation throughout infectious period

The daily tally is 100 more than Victoria's record 725 cases recorded on August 5, 2020.

Of the new cases, 58 cases were infectious in the community, 92 cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period and 38 were in isolation for part of their infectious period, the isolation status of 637 is unknown.

149 are linked to a known case or cluster; 116 are household contacts and 33 are close contacts; and the source of infection for 676 cases is under investigation.

Three people died overnight, including two men, aged in their 80s and 90s and a woman aged in her 90s.

The man in his 80s was fully vaccinated, while the man in his 90s was not vaccinated. Both had significant health issues.

The woman had received one dose of vaccine.

These bring the total deaths in this outbreak to 68.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian appealed for people to consider the greater good and said only a handful of people were doing the wrong thing but it was having catastrophic consequences.

NSW Health's Dr Marianne Gale said there are currently 516 cases in hospital, 85 of which are in intensive care and 29 requiring ventilation. Of the 85 in intensive care, 76 not vaccinated, and the remaining have had one dose.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said 120,000 people were vaccinated on Friday, which has resulted in almost 30 per cent of the state's population being fully vaccinated.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro said there were 38 cases in Western NSW and 14 in Far West local health district.

There were 124,610 tests received in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday, and 120,000 vaccinations delivered.

Breaking down the new cases:

NSW Health's ongoing sewage surveillance program has recently detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 at the sewage treatment plants in Orange and Lithgow, in the state's Central Tablelands.

The NSW outbreak has also moved south with a Lachlan Shire resident testing positive for COVID-19.

The woman was infectious while in the community and visited locations in Hillston and Lake Cargelligo.

In a statement, the MLHD said the positive case made brief visits to these stores, but anyone who attended these venues at these times should get tested immediately and isolate until further advice from NSW Health.

Yesterday 642 cases were recorded in NSW and four deaths. Three of the four people who died with COVID-19 had one dose of the vaccine.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the state needs to do everything they can to reduce case number and increase vaccination rates.

She extended the Greater Sydney lockdown until the end of September, mandated the use of masks outdoors at all time across NSW apart from when exercising and introduced a curfew in local government areas of concern.

Vaccines will be mandated for childcare and disability care workers.
