A total of 25 bulls representing the black and red Simmentals and Sim-Angus, Angus, and Charolais bulls sold for a top price of $22,000 to average $13,160 at the Elite Cattle Company on-property bull sale held at Meandarra, Qld, last Thursday.
Vendors Glen Waldron and Kim Groner were both over the moon with the sale result as they had struggled with the decision to hold a sale due to their smaller-than-usual offering this year.
Mr Waldron told the buyers gallery the sale, numbers were back this year due to the devastating effect of the 2019 drought when they were forced to offload many breeders.
The top price accolade went to the 32-month-old black Simmental bull Elite Platinum, a homozygous polled son of Double Bar D True Grit from an Elite-bred female.
The long-bodied bull with beautiful skin type was secured by repeat buyers Mick and Lenore Cole, Wilmore Downs, Capella, Qld.
The Coles first spotted Elite Platinum at the Ag-Grow field days at Emerald, Qld, and came to the sale especially to buy him.
He will be joined to Brahman breeders and the progeny will be sold as weaners in the paddock.
Strathleigh Black Simmentals, Rosevale, Attunga, paid $20,000 for Elite Quotable, who was the junior champion Simmental bull at Beef 2021. He is by Elite Money Maker from Elite Whammy N105, who was 2018 Ekka junior champion female.
Charolais bulls sold to a top of $20,000 when Maurie and Judy O'Dell, Colorado, Jericho, selected the red factor Elite Queenslander, the first son of HRT Crowd Favourite to sell by Elite Cattle Company.
The O'Dells kept shopping and finished with Elite Quick Cash for $18,000.
The O'Dells sell their weaners which are highly sought after through the Blackall saleyards for premium prices.
Angus bulls topped the sale at $17,000 when Premier Identity R34 was bought by Durndrax - Hemswell Pty Ltd, Scone.
Volume buyers were the Guy family, Cairngorn, Bungunya, Qld, who finished with four bulls to average $10,000.
Mr Waldron said they were delighted to break their previous top price of $17,000 and next year's sale numbers would certainly be increased now they had recovered from the 2019 drought.
