THE strength of the cattle market continues to surprise agents right across NSW and it was the cow market that raised a few eyebrows this week.
Justin Oakenfull from Elders Inverell said the cow prices at the local prime sale on Tuesday were as dear as he and his colleagues had ever seen.
A highlight was the sale of some surplus Angus cows sold by the Skipper family, Wandsworth, for 413.2 cents a kilogram or $3059.40 a head.
Mr Oakenfull said the cows, which had calved out of season, were from a very good Angus herd and presented in excellent condition.
Cows recorded a significant price rise across the Inverell market, with the heavyweight, high yielding types selling 13c/kg to 18c/kg better than last week.
The better season right across NSW has resulted in bigger supplies of heavy, well-finished cows being offered and it's being reflected in the hefty prices being paid by processors.
