A DRAFT of 72 well-presented rams that ticked the box for having a balanced set of Lambplan figures were snapped up by buyers at the 22nd annual Tenalba Border Leicester Ram Sale today at Albert, Canowindra.
Both stud interest and local commercial support fuelled the bidding, which resulted in a 100 per cent clearance of the 72 rams on offer with a $2962 average and $4400 top price achieved.
George and Cherie Pagan of Cooinda Border Leicesters, Gilgandra purchased the $4400 high-selling lot 13 ram, Tenalba 49/20Tw.
A twin-born ram, sired by Tenalba 139/18Tw that goes back to Hanookra 537/16, he presented with Lambplan Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) of 0.48 for birth weight (BWT), 2.2 for maternal weaning weight (MWWT), 6.6 for weaning weight (WWT), 10.2 for post weaning weight (PWT), 0.2 for post weaning fat (PFAT) and 0.5 for post weaning eye muscle depth (PEMD).

First time buyers from the Tenalba stud, the Pagans said data wise they were chasing the good growth, positive fat and muscle and good maternal weaning weight.
"He is a well-balanced, upstanding ram with good bone and had the mix of traits we were looking for," Mrs Pagan said.
Stud interest also had Pastoria Border Leicesters at Pastora East, Victoria operating online via AuctionsPlus to secure one of the $4100 second top-priced rams, lot 31, Tenalba 83/20Tw.
Used by the Tenalba stud in the ewe lamb joining program prior to the sale, he was a twin-born ram by Tenalba 82/17Tw which had ASBVs of 0.31 for BWT, 1.5 for MWWT, 6.8 for WWT, 10.2 for PWWT, 1 for PFAT and 0.5 for PEMD.
Also selling for the $4100 second top money was lot 3, Tenalba 53/20Tw a son of Kegra 56/18Tw, purchased by the Nash family, Macquarie, Toogong as part of their draft of six averaging $3467.

The largest volume buyers were Gourock Partnership, Glenfinnan, Nimmitabel which took home 10 for a top of $3100 and average of $2790.
Tenalba stud principal Phillip Russell was very happy with the result and thanked everyone for their purchases.
"It was a fair market, with a good result for both the buyers and for the seed stock producer," Mr Russell commented at the end of the sale.
"We had both repeat buyers and a number of new buyers, and hope the buyers have success with their purchases."
The sale was conducted by Kevin Miller Whitty Lennon and Co, Canowindra with auctioneer Luke Witty, Forbes.
