The Rock Angus held their fifth annual on-farm spring bull sale earlier this month with the stud's sale date brought forward, a decision drive by market and buyer demand.
A full clearance of 24 Angus bulls resulted in a $10,901 average which was over $3000 higher than the last year's average. It also marked a stud record high average for The Rock Angus, who have only been hosting annual sales for five years.
The $36,000 top-priced bull was purchased by Sprys Angus, Mangoplah. This was a stud record top-price for The Rock Angus.
Raised purely on pasture and hay, The Rock Equator R20, was an impressive 18-month-old bull which weighed just over 800 kilograms, making him the heaviest of the young bulls in the draft.
A low birth weight bull, with high growth and a larger frame, Sprys Angus have already begun marketing their new purchase.
The second highest priced bull, The Rock Lotto, sold to Casella Management for $16,000, while the largest volume buyer was Bangus Pastoral Co, which took home five bulls.
The Rock Angus principal James Masson said that he was incredibly pleased with the results and thanked the buyers and underbidders both present and represented on AuctionsPlus.
"It's a really great time to be in the cattle industry. We have worked incredibly hard to get to where we are in such a relatively short space of time and it's been a blessing to have finally had a good couple of seasons after the harder times when we were just getting going," he said.
"We are very grateful for the support, both repeat buyers and new interest, and particularly the local support from here in the Riverina."
Selling agents were Nutrien Wagga Wagga with Tim Woodham as the auctioneer.
