Lach River Merinos sold to $10,000, av $2925

Lach River principal Richard Chalker said he was very excited with his new sire, who he said is one of the few outstanding Poll Merino rams on offer this year.

"He is an impact sire," Mr Chalker said.

"His bright lustrous and soft handling wool on a balanced sheep with a very supple skin is what the wool industry needs."

The purchase of another impact sire from the South Australian stud, will be an addition to the genetic depth of the Lach River stud operated by Richard, Debbie and Brad Chalker, where they offered 51 April 2020-drop Merino and Poll Merino rams for their 6^th ram sale.

There was a total clearance of the 51 rams for an average price of $2925 and a top price of $10,000.

The top priced ram, a son of Collinsville Gladiator bought at the Adelaide ram sales in 2019 for $72,500 was purchased by Lawrence Clifford, Bindaree Merino stud, Berridale, who was advised in his choice of the Lach River offering by Brett Povey, SBBL, Cooma.

Weighing 118kg, the ram caught Mr Clifford's eye for his length and depth of body with an even covering of bold medium and soft handling wool.

"He is a good square ram with a great barrel, and stands well," he said.

"He is well balanced for a well grown ram and with a heavy cutting fine micron fleece with a good lock and supple skin.

"That is what I am looking for - the great skin produces bright white wool and lots of it in our country."

The ram had the fleece measurements of 17.8 micron, 3.2 standard deviation (SD) and 99.5pc comfort factor (CF).

The top price Poll Merino at $5000 was bought by repeat buyer Mick Kelly and his daughter Lauren, Gundary, who were advised by Craig Pearsal, Elders, Goulburn.

The 92.6kg AI son of Collinsville 771 has the fleece measurements of 20.1 micron, 3.2 SD and 99.1 CF.

"He is a big ram with free-growing wool with a good looking fine/medium fleece," Mr Kelly said.

The sale was settled by Nutrien Boorowa, with Tim Woodham taking on auctioneering duties.
