THE inaugural Capree on-property Merino and invitational working dog sale was held on the Stapleton family's property at Newbridge recently.
It was believed that this was the first sale on AuctionsPlus where the same vendor has sold two species in the one sale.
On offer were 60 Merino rams from the Capree stud and 12 Kelpie working dogs from Capree as well as other guest vendors.
The top-priced ram was, tag 31, a Poll Merino heavy cutting, October 2020-drop AI son of Charinga Rowan.
Weighing 91.2 kilograms, the sale-topper had fleece figures of 19.5 micron, standard deviation (SD) of 3.1, coefficient of variation (CV) of 17.1 per cent and comfort factor (CF) of 99.8pc, with a yearling clean fleece weight percentage (YCFW) of 135pc and a breech wrinkle score of two.
He sold at $4500 to Gilmandyke Pastoral, Orange with Jack Newham making the purchase.
The top-priced horned ram was tag 289 which made $3500 selling to Kelvin Pearce, Rockley Mount.
He was an October 2020-drop ram, sired by C170220, which weighed 109kg and was growing a 17-micron fleece with measurements of 3.0 for SD, 14.6pc for CV, 100pc for CF, 126pc for YCFW percentage and breech wrinkle score of two.
The rams auctioned average was $2035.
Twelve working Kelpies were offered with 11 selling to a $15,500 high and $10,250 average.
The top price at $15,500 was Capree Minnie, a 20-month-old black and tan female offered by Sam Cook of Carcoar, and sold to John Blanch of Caloola.
Capree Blue was the second top-priced Kelpie sold for $14,000. He was 12-month-old blue and tan male dog offered by Capree stud, Newbridge, and sold to local Michael Ryan from Newbridge.
Both top lots were sired by Capree Blue, a former Australian Yard Dog Champion.
The 11 Kelpies sold to four states of Australia.
A large crowd on sale day enjoyed the display by Roger and Tim Pulkinghorm from Charinga and Banavie Merino studs with 12 of their leading sires for people to view.
Elders Mudgee were the selling agents with Jason Pearce on the podium. Struan Pearce handled the online bidding for AuctionPlus.
