Local buyers flocked to the annual Adina Merino ram sale on Monday at Peak View via Cooma, to set a new on property top price for the stud at $13,000.
In the breakdown, 40 of 46 rams sold to the sale top of $13,000 to average $2756 across the draft.
The top ram was bought by Stephen and Lionel Platts, Dunagree Pastoral Company, Ando, for $13,000.
He was a 20.1 micron, May 2020 drop ram by the Little Fergie sire line, weighing 122 kilograms, with a standard deviation of 3.7 and a coefficient variation of 18.4, coupled with a comfort factor of 99.1.
The brothers are long time supporters of the Adina stud and are impressed with their new sire and will use him to continue to breed replacement rams for their 5500 strong Merino ewe base..
Stud principal James Barron said they were chasing the ram's genetic line, of which they have a long pedigree of Adina-bred bloodlines in their flock.
Mr Barron said he was a very productive ram with a long staple of very stylish wool.
M and A Hain, Arable, Cooma, bought the top second top price rams at $8000 apiece, along with a third ram for $3000.
The first of their top sires was also a May drop Little Fergie son at 20.7 micron, with a 3.1 SD, 15.1 CV, 99.7 CF and sold for $8000, weighing 138kg.
Their second sire was by the Adina Black family line and was also snapped up for $8000.
CT and G Lindsey, Peak View, paid $7500 for another black tag sire, weighing 116kg at 18.8 micron, 3.0 SD, 16CV and 99.7 CF.
The sale then lead into the local contingent of wool growers chasing the big framed Adina rams, lead by WH and RJ Boate, Jerangle, buying five rams to a top of $3500, to average $1850.
MA and MA Platts, Bombala, paid to $3750 for five rams and averaged their draft out at $2300, while GG and PG Luton, Shannons Flat, again played well keeping up the middle end of the sale, averaging $1450 and Graham Hillyer, Bombala, paid to $3250 for four rams to average $2563.
Rounding out the sale, BE and JR Mackay, Shannons Flat, paid $4000 for a solid testing fine wool ram at 18.4 micron, out to a 99.8 CF, in a draft of three rams, that included two others at $1000 and $1500 respectively.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Nutrien with Rick Power as the auctioneer.
