Yearling heifers sell to $2280 at NVLX Wodonga

The quality of the offering was mixed with only a few pens of better bred and finished cattle were on hand; however values still remained strong.

There were some very good lines of European breed cattle throughout the sale.

Indicative prices for steers weighing 300kg to 400kg ranged from $2080 (308kg) to $2340 (388kg); while steers over 400kg sold from $2330 (405kg) to $2610 ( for six Angus weighing 486kg), and lightweight steers under 300kg topped at $2040.

Sales of heifers in the 300kg to 400kg weight range varied from $1770 (300kg) to $2270 (385kg) while those over 400kg sold to $2280 (418kg) and lightweights sold from $1350 (216kg) to $1760 (295kg).

Unjoined heifers sold to $2120 for two Angus weighing 441kg, while cows with calves sold from $2860 to $4350.

Representative sales of steers included 22 Mawarra- and Tarcombe-blood Herefords, weighing 393kg offered by J and T Wright, Sandy Creek, Victoria, sold for $2370: five Scott's Angus-blood steers weighing 359kg sold for $2250 on account MR Cheesley, Indigo Valley, Vic., and 16 Kenmere-blood Charolais, seven to nine months and weighing 368kg sold by KL and PM Proctor, Leneva, Vic., for $2320.

Older steer sales included 21 black baldies, weighing 444kg sold by MacLeod Pastoral Pty Ltd, Jingellic, for $2550 and nine yearling Herefords weighing 461kg sold by J and T Wright, Sandy Creek, Vic., for $2540.

Sales of heifers included 30 Jarobee and The Glen-blood Angus, weighing 385kg sold by MacLeod Pastoral Pty Ltd, Jingellic, for $2270: 13 Jarobee-blood Angus, weighing 331kg sold by Greg Harkin, Tallangatta Valley, Vic, for $2020 and 10 Angus cross weighing 346kg sold for $2000 on account MR Cheesley, Indigo Valley Vic.

Cows with calves sold for $4350 when JE and SM Chandler, Balldale, yarded four Angus/Santa Gertrudis cross depastured to Limousin bull and J Culican, Mansfield, Vic., received $3590 for the pen of six Angus second and third calvers with two-three month calves.

Buyers from Berrigan and Finley competed with local Victorian interests along with restockers from Tatura and Shepparton.

Wodonga-based agencies Corcoran Parker, Peter Ruaro Livestock, Schubert Boers and BUR conducted the sale.
