A WAGYU female ranked number two in the breed among all 2019-drop females for the Wagyu Self Replacing Index has sold for $34,000 in the Delta Wagyu Production Sale held at Scone saleyards on Wednesday last week.
Demand from buyers chasing quality bloodlines and high-figured animals resulted in a 96 per cent overall sale clearance for Steve and Liz Binnie, Singleton.
In the breakdown, 12 of 13 Wagyu heifers sold to the sale top price of $34,000 and averaged $7583, while eight of nine Wagyu cow/calf units reached a top of $17,000 and averaged $8875.
It was a full clearance of 24 Wagyu bulls with a sale high of $18,000, twice, and average of $11,417 achieved.
Mr Binnie said they are happy with the results and the support of people looking to select elite animals in the top 5pc of the breed.
"The domestic support is appreciated, they were there in droves, but unfortunately very few of the international buyers could operate due to software and technical issues that arose on the online platform," he said.
"Since, we have been inundated with people saying that had been saving up to support the sale, to buy females and get embryos.... but they could not operate."
Those that were successful in purchasing secured great value for top of the breed genetics.
The $34,000 high-seller was Delta Q73, a the two-year-old female purchased by Kevin and Leanne Smith, Marleston, SA, which boasted a 2.5 marble score figure in the top 1pc. Sired by Sumo Cattle Co Michifuku L195 and out of Delta Itoshigenami L203, she was in calf to Sumo Shikikan N211.
Top bulls Delta WestB39 N0001 sold to Leeton Grazing, Barraba, and Delta Prelude Q20 sold to Edwards Livestock, Oakey, Qld.
Volume buyers were Hancock Pastoral, and Hart Rural Agencies, Barraba, who will each enjoy a dinner for four at Rockpools Spice Temple Restaurant in Sydney.
The $1500 per embryo top embryo package was bought by Bar H Grazing, Comet, Qld, while Hamilton Park Wagyu, Wallumbilla North, Qld, bought the $1000 per straw top semen package.
Mr Binnie said they are planning another autumn production sale to be held in April 2022 to meet the needs of people that missed out on bulls at the Scone sale.
