The Mackenzie family have been producing Black Angus cattle since 1884 and their Macka's Australian Black Angus Beef operation is still family owned and operated today.
Operating in three areas, Port Stephens, Gloucester and the Hunter Valley, Macka's needed a machine which was easy to use and fit in with their farming practices.
The mobility of the Optiweigh system, coinciding with its ease of use and low animal stress, made it the ideal choice for Macka's.
The highly-portable Optiweigh can be towed behind a ute with an easy setup.
Cattle are drawn to the unit by a lick or salt block, step their front feet on, with an algorithm applied to calculate total body weight.
Macka's have put it's unit to good use.
"We have always been very focused on low stress handling of cattle," Robert Mackenzie said.
"We are also doing whatever we can to make the job easier.
"The Optiweigh System ticks both those boxes which is why we purchased it.
"It is a stress free way, and very easy way, to monitor the performance of our steers and heifers.
"We use the Aglive platform to help us manage and capture the data from the Optiweigh system.
"We use that data to see when to sell and when to join.
"The Optiweigh makes it so we don't have to walk the heifers or the steers to check their weight.
"It's all done very easily in the paddock.
"We get an idea of their weight on a daily basis."
