The Albury-Wodonga Independent Stock Agents special store sale in Wodonga on Thursday saw good steer pens regularly pass $2500 a head in price.
While a pen of eight PTIC Angus cows averaging 596kg saw the highest per head price at $3000, Angus steers sold well, up to $2800 per head
Agents yarded just over 1600 cattle for the sale, with the top sale being a pen of PTIC Angus heifers, weighing 596kg selling for $3000.
Corcoran Parker senior livestock agent Leigh McEvoy said there had been a good mix of cattle on offer.
"With the number of 1600 cattle plus, the number just obviously brings more quality to the sale so the quality was quite good and the good quality line of cattle sold exceptionally well," he said.
"The heavier weight steers sold in excess of $2300 and some lighter weights steer sold around about $2100 to $2200
"Heifers were very strong as well with some nice black heifers there making which were heavier than 350kg in excess of $2200 and $300.
Lighter weight heifers ranged from around $1700 to a top of $2100 and generated the better cents per kilogram prices.
Cattle were sold mainly to feedlot buyers, but a good amount of local purchasers had turned up and got their fare share of pens as well.
"There still was a lot local competition around but much agent support there today too for restocking purposes for local clients," Mr McEvoy said.
"This was with the usual field of commission buyers buying for their particular clients as well, but all in all it is very strong."
He said while prices were good, there was still potential for strong sales in upcoming weeks at Wodonga.
"I thought this month was probably stronger than it had been for the last few weeks, even though it could have been a touch stronger," Mr McEvoy said.
"With this little bit of rain around there was a bit of bouyancy there from buyers, so there is something to look forward to in forthcoming weeks."
