THE Royal Flying Doctor Service Broken Hill received a vital boost last week, with more than $6000 raised for the non-profit organisation through a charity ram sale at Agfair Broken Hill.
Hosted by Nutrien Broken Hill, the sale saw a total of 18 dorper rams from three different studs go under the hammer, with each stud donating the average price of their rams sold to the service.
The sale achieved total clearance, with an average of $2233 and a total price of $40,200.
Topping the sale were two rams from Red Rock White Dorpers, Keith, sold for $4400 apiece, with the stud's six rams selling to an average of $4000.
Glen Park Whites and Ultra Whites sold to a top of $1400 for an average of $1066, while Australis and Genelink Dorpers sold to a top of $2000 and and average of $1566.
Lots 2 and 5 were the sale toppers from Red Rock, both October 2020 drop rams, weighing 90kg and 96kg respectively.
BR&C livestock agent Jason Morrison purchased four Red Rock rams during the sale on behalf of a client, including a top price ram.
"The guys I was buying for have been getting rams off red Rock for quite a few years now," he said.
"They like their rams, they've got plenty of shape and good growth and just grow into decent sheep.
"We're generally looking for something that can sort of cover the country, find water and find feed and their rams do year in and year out."
Six rams from Australis and Genelink Dorpers were also sold during the sale in addition to six from Glen Park Whites and Ultra Whites.

"It was just an opportunity to have a sale so the vendors that go to the trouble of bringing the rams all the way up here don't have to take them all the way back home," Nutrien Broken Hill's Troy Hartman said.
"Everyone's very happy with the contribution from the RFDS and what they do for the community, so you only have to mention it to anyone and they're happy to put forward a donation.
"To have only six rams each and for them to donate their sale average is a significant thing.
"Hopefully, we'll never need the RFDS, but you just never know so it's important to support it when you can."
Red Rock principal Brad Edson said he was pleased with the outcome of the day.
"It's been a good season up this way which helped the job along," he said.
"It's important for us to touch base with our clients up here and offering a few rams through the sale was a great way to do that while also donating to a good cause."
The combined donation from the vendors was $6629.
