THE applause was just that bit louder for the Awards for Excellence winners as a packed house celebrated the best in the business at the Hort Connections 2022 gala dinner on June 8.
The event rounded off the three-day conference held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and gave plenty of opportunity for growers and other industry stakeholders to let their hair down.
Addressing the audience, Ausveg chairman Bill Bulmer acknowledged the hardships being faced by Queensland growers, particularly in the Lockyer Valley region.
"I've been out to Gatton. Being a farmer myself, living on a flood plain, seeing the devastation and the hardship, the Queensland growers are enduring, from February right through to May; it doesn't end now. It will go on for many months," Mr Bulmer said.

"I wish you all the best. It does get better. We are very resilient. We do move on from these hard times."
Mr Bulmer thanked and congratulated the organising team for pulling together a successful event.
Mr Bulmer also announced that next year's Hort Connections will be held in Adelaide from June 5-7.
The main meal consisted of a slow roasted Kilcoy eye fillet, waxy potatoes, seasonal vegetables with Mush-Boom! mushroom sauce.
Dessert included a velvet calamansi tart, toasted meringue, with raspberry gel.
