"PRICES are red hot", were the words on everybody's lips at the Goulburn weaner sale last Thursday, including Binda resident Martin Croker.
Mr Croker, "Glenco", was pleased with the prices and said it was almost $300 more than he received last year.
He sold 16 Bolong-blood Hereford weaner steers, 301 kilograms, seven to eight months, to a top of $815.
Mr Croker said he only received about $520 last year for the same type of steers.
"It was a very good sale, I'm very pleased with the results," Mr Croker said.
"Prime cattle are selling well, especially for steers over 500kg, which are selling at 240 cents a kilogram to 250c/kg, which is a good help."
Together with his wife Margaret on their 364-hectare property, Mr Croker said he usually targets the weaner sales before winter.
"We got good rain across the weekend, the season is good in our area and cattle are mostly selling locally and to Victoria," he said.
"It has been the best 12 months in our area in my lifetime."
Running 800 Merino ewes on "Glenco", Mr Croker said he kept a small herd of heifers and intended to grow out the rest of the steers, as feed and water were not an issue.
