FOR almost a month the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator has risen every sale day and hit 566 cents a kilogram (carcase weight) on Tuesday evening.
The rise has been unprecedented and shows little sign of easing, although there was a flatter trend towards the end of last week.
On Monday most selling centres recorded rises which resulted in individual sales averaging well above the EYCI.
For example, at Wagga Wagga the market for EYCI specification cattle averaged 616.8c/kg, while at Forbes the average was 598.46c/kg.
Yearling steers across all sales on Monday averaged 606.3c/kg reflecting the strength of the market and indicated there was more room for the market to move even higher.
On Tuesday the trend was repeated although some individual markets didn't rise with as much gusto as Monday's
Carcoar, Wodonga and Shepparton all averaged more than 600c/kg, while both Warwick and Roma markets in Queensland traded well below the EYCI.
