THE European Union Index class at the 53rd Herefords Australia National Show and Sale met the requirements of the European Union (EU) market, said judge Rob Walker, Orange.
"Quality was good and the cattle I pulled out were good representatives for type - high yielding cattle with good conformation and of good eating quality," Mr Walker, a former Woolworths national livestock manager said.
Mr Walker is pictured with Herefords Australia chief executive officer, John McKew, Armidale and the Performance Class-EU Index champion, Days Patrick H37 (AI) ET) (S), held by owner Lachy Days, Days stud, Bordertown, South Australia.
He said the domestic (Breed - plan's Supermarket Index) winner was "absolutely ideal".
"I believe a mid-frame score animal is the type for the domestic trade."
