GRIFFITH'S Australia Day Working Party has received outstanding nominations recognising community and sporting achievements for its Australia Day Awards.
Councillor and Australia Day Working Party chairwoman Christine Stead said Griffith this year had excellent nominees.
"The nominations are recognition of outstanding community and sporting achievements, so congratulations to all of the nominees," Cr Stead said.
"We encourage all community members to attend the ceremony and embrace Australia Day."
Categories included the Junior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year.
Michelle Bordignon has been nominated in the Citizen of the Year category.
Mrs Bordignon provides vital services, such as the Carevan and Meals on Wheels, to the needy in the Griffith community.
Although she is a part-time employee for both these services, there is no mistaking her commitment to each of her roles.
Mrs Bordignon is a welcome sight for many in the community and she often visits clients in her own time to check if they are okay.
She instigated a Community Pantry with essential goods for people during times of hardship.
The winner of each category will be announced at 9am.
Internationally renowned chef Lyndey Milan OAM is this year's Australia Day Ambassador.
The Griffith City Band will provide entertainment while the local Branch of Soroptimist International will serve morning tea to welcome new citizens and award winners.
