QUIRINDI children's charity Farming for Kids has stripped its first wheat crop, with plenty of local chipping in to get the crop off.
Farming for Kids president Charles Hill, "Karapiti", Pine Ridge, said the 60-hectare crop of Spitfire yielded 86 tonnes, which was sent to Killara feedlot.
The charity, formed at the end of 2013, leased the land from Liverpool Plains Shire Council, with the plan to donate all profits to disadvantaged children in the local area.
Mr Hill said it had been a community effort from start to finish.
Seed was donated by Pacific Seeds, Scott McInnes "Eastview", Quirindi, planted the crop and local spray contractors helped through the season.
Contract harvester Noel Saunders, "Collerene", Willow Tree, and Quirindi farmers Ian Carter, "Connamara", and Andrew Gavel, from "Kickerbell", donated their machinery for the harvest.
Agracom and the Marhiene family provided trucks and Agracom handled the marketing.
"It was a fantastic community effort," Mr Hill said.
"Everything has been done for free. We even secured some fuel from Express Fuels in Sydney."
The harvest follows a successful fundraiser on Melbourne Cup Day.
Money will be distributed to local children through the schools and community projects targeted at kids.
"We'll fund local projects and have a fund that people can apply to, which can help underprivileged kids," Mr Hill said.
