A HORSE was allegedly dragged behind a moving car from a rural property at Lockhart last week.
Police have charged a 35-year-old man over the alleged animal cruelty offences near Wagga Wagga last week.
Officers were told about 10pm on Thursday, a man went to a rural property on Urana Boree Creek Road at Lockhart to transport a horse to Lockhart.
It’s alleged the man secured the horse to the back of a vehicle and drove along the roadway, before the horse fell and sustained serious injuries. The animal later died.
About 3pm on Friday, the man allegedly returned to the property to transport a second horse from the location.
After walking the animal behind the vehicle for a number of kilometres, the man allegedly tied the horse to a tree by the roadside and drove away.
Officers attached to Wagga Wagga local area command received reports of an injured horse and arrived at the scene shortly before 10pm where they started an investigation. The second horse was later euthanised.
Following inquires, police went to a home in Lockhart on Saturday evening where they arrested a 35-year-old man and he was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station.
The man was issued a field court attendance notice for the offences of aggravated cruelty to animals (two counts) and be in charge of animal and fail to alleviate pain (two counts).
He is expected to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 10 September 2014.
