IT may be heading towards 90 years of age but the classic American Dodge that the Keys family, from the Northern Rivers, take to town for shopping trips runs as smoothly as it did when it first arrived on their farm.
Alan and his son Adam Keys have long been enthusiasts of the legendary pioneer automobile, the Dodge, and this 1927 model has been in their family for four generations.
Alan’s grandfather paid the equivalent of $610 for the machine, one of the first Dodge cars imported into Australia with a standard gearbox, and it arrived at their Federal dairy along with a company man, who stayed for two weeks to teach him how to drive.
Before that, Alan’s grandfather had only ever driven a horse and buggy.
It remained the family car through the generations, with Adam also learning to drive in it.
The Dodge is just one of many unique items in the shed of the Keys family, as the The Land discovered.
