SOLID demand for quality Merino and Poll Merino was evident at Tallawong Merino on-property ram sale on October 21 with vendor Frank Kaveney selling 116 of the 144 offered to a top price of $3000 twice and average of $1271.
Return client, Steve Faulder, “The Ranch”, Yass, was the first to secure one of the two $3000 rams.
Weighing 74 kilograms, he had a fibre diameter of 17.3-micron, standard deviation (SD) of 2.4-micron, co-efficient variation (CV) of 14 per cent and comfort factor (CF) of 99.6pc.
Mr Faulder said he selected the ram because of the softness and length of his wool.
“We had three picked out and we would have been happy with any of the three,” Mr Faulder said.
The second top price ram was taken home by long-term client, Ed Storey, “Werong”, Yass.
The ram, weighing 67.6kg, had a fibre diameter of 19.4-micron, 3.2-micron SD, 16.5pc CV and 99.3pc CF.
Mr Storey said he was a good, big productive sheep that would cut a good amount of wool.
Volume buyers were father and son duo, Don and Mick Reynolds, Reynolds Pastoral Company, Young, who took away 17 rams to a top of $900 and average $805.
Stud principal Frank Kaverney said he was pleased with the result.
“The sale averaged better than I thought it would,” he said.
“The clearance was down a bit, but I was expecting that. It was good to see a couple of new buyers come in and buy significantly as well as loyal return clients.”
The Helmsman sale was conducted by Landmark, Yass.
