A CROWD of long term and new Haddon Rig Merino and Poll Merino clients gathered on the lawn at the Falkiner family's annual on-property sale.
The 50 registered bidders from as far as Cunnamulla, Queensland, to Stockyard Hill, Victoria, were chasing both Merinos and Poll Merinos.
Of 130 Merino rams offered 128 sold to a top of $10,000 and averaging $2364.
This year's sale top was $4000 better than the 2014 result of $6000.
The 31 polled rams sold to a of $7500, averaging $2125, again $1500 up on last years top price.
The top priced ram was the first under the hammer to sell, secured by Terry Williams, "Terra", Dubbo.
The two-tooth ram measured 19.9 micron in fibre diameter with a coefficient of variation (CV) of 18.5 per cent, standard deviation (SD) of 3.73-micron ,comfort factor (CF) of 98.9pc and a greasy fleece weight (GFW) of 131.
Weighing 127 kilograms the top ram was sired by HR 9-145 with a fat depth of six millimetres and eye muscle depth (EMD) of 33mm.
Mr Williams said it had good weight for age, wool cut and constitution.
"If we can cut an extra kilogram on the ewes, that will pay for shearing with this ram," he said.
The second highest priced ram was the next one up for grabs, selling for $7000 to Tim O'Brien, "Thuruna", Goonumbla.
The Poll Merino rams sold to a top of $7,500 to Dougal and Susan McLeish, "Thurn", Coonamble, who also purchased a second poll ram for $2200.
The McLeish family breed their own rams and are moving towards a polled flock.
They bought the top priced polled ram last year and were extremely happy with the lambs on the ground.
The sale was conducted by Landmark Wilson Russ, Warren and Elders, Dubbo with Andy McGeoch, Dubbo and Andrew Wishart, Cootamundra, auctioneering.
