THE annual Retallack Border Leicester ram and ewe sale held by the Grinter family, Ariah Park, reached $5500 on two occasions for stud rams.
In the wrap, the sale averaged $2400 for all 25 sold, while 30 stud ewes made to $1600 and averaged $392 and 120 flock rams averaged $821.
Ben, Matthew and Daniel Simmons, Talbragar Border Leicester stud, Leadville, topped the sale paying equal top of $5500 for an Ima Callum son, with a 4.5 weaning weight figure and 113.2 Border $Index.
The Simmons boys also paid $1600 for the top ewe by the same sire, who was reserve champion ewe at Bendigo in July, before snapping up another six ewes to average $679 across the draft.
W.E. Lawrence, Binalong, paid the equal top for Retallack 793.13, a Centre Punch son with a 10 month weaning weight figure of 7.1 and Border $Index of 113.2.
In the flock rams long time supporter Geoff Allen, Mathoura, led the charge paying $947 for 18, while Scott Meehan, Newmarket Livestock, Euroa, set a strong platform taking home 30 rams for seven different clients to average $932 and gross $27,950 for the load.
