THE Merriman family’s Merryville stud, Boorowa, swept the floor in the fine wool Merino judging of the 2015 Sydney Royal Show taking out the grand and reserve champion fine wool Merino ram awards.
The Merryville grand champion was full Merryville blood, and tested at 17.4 micron, 1.9-micron standard deviation (SD), 10.9 per cent co-efficient of variation, and 100 per cent comfort factor.
Wally Merriman of Merryville said it was the ram's first showing.
The fine wool Merino judging was done by Colin Seis, Winona Merino stud, Gulgong.
Mr Seis said the grand champion ram was balanced and a heavy cutting ram.
“(It was an) outstanding, big stretchy ram, with a lot of wool,” he said.
Grand champion fine wool Merino ewe was won by Shalimar Park, Walcha.
It tested 17.1 micron, 2.5-micron SD, 14.6pc CV and 99.9pc CF.
It was exhibited by Alison van Eyk and had won champion fine wool Merino at a number of the New England shows.
Reserve grand champion fine wool Merino ewe went to an exhibit from Alfoxton Merino stud, Armidale.
