IN A near total auction clearance 56 of 60 rams topped at $4200 and averaged a healthy $1348 - more than $200 up on last year's average - at the Brien family's Bella Lana Merino ram sale at Wellington on Friday.
Returning buyers Dougal and Lachlan Campbell bought seven rams at a $1657 average including the sale-topper, a 19.9 micron son of Leachcim 1173, carrying all positive ASBV values.
The brothers join some 3000 Merino ewes of an average 18 micron on "Burrandong" and "Bonada" in the Dripstone and Mumbil districts south of Wellington.
First-time buyer, David Boyd, "Rosebank", Miniip, in Victoria's Wimmera region, had purchased 450 Hogget ewes last April and returned to buy some rams to put over them.
He paid an average of $1940 for five rams topping at $2300.
