The ram, which was grand champion Poll Merino at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show was offered by Pemcaw principals, the Armstrong family.
It was snapped up by a syndicate of NSW and Victorian studs.
Robert Plush, Kerrsville, Coleraine, Vic, was the syndicate’s major shareholder, with Melrose, Nurrabiel, Vic; Glenpaen, Brimpaen, Vic; Merrignee, Boorowa; Grassy Creek, Rugby; Mount Bute, Linton, Vic; Kurra-Wirra, Kurra, Vic, and Mountain Dam, Telangatuk East, Vic, receiving semen rights.
Kerrsville principal Robert Plush said since judging the Poll Merino ram at Bendigo he “had his mind set on buying him” at Sheepvention.
Pemcaw will retain a 50 per cent semen right in the 18.5-micron, two-year-old ram. Pemcaw also had the highest sale average of $6120 across five long-wool rams.
One Oak stud, Jerilderie, also had a fantastic Sheepvention finale, making to a top of $15,000 for a 14-month-old, 17-micron ram.
The winning bidder was Scott Pickering, Derella Downs Merino stud, Esperance, Western Australia.
The average price of the sale was up $178 on last year to $2350, while the clearance rate of 86 per cent was an increase on last year’s 81pc.
