TWO studs looking for outcross bloodlines competed heavily with returning clients for sires among the 52 bulls sold in a total auction clearance topping at $13,000 and averaging a healthy $6159 during the sixth annual Moogenilla Angus Bull Sale at Forbes on Friday, August 7.
The average for the predominantly July and August drop 2013 calves is the best result yet for stud principals, Sarah Wrigley and Paul Sinderberry, based at “Carawatha”, Condobolin, and sold through the Mid-West Livestock Exchange.
Some 80 people attended the sale with most of the 44 registered buyers buying from one to three bulls each.
Holbrook based Dunoon Angus stud, operated by Roger and Jock Harbison and family, pushed bidding to a top of $13,000 for the 13th lot, Moogenilla J51 (AI) by the well sought-after Te mania Emperor E343.
This stylish July 2013 son weighed 868 kilograms, a scrotal circumference of 40.5 centimetres and is a low birthweight sire which is in the top five per cent of his Estimated Breeding Values (EBV) indexes.
Colin and Melinda Bannerman, Kywarra stud, Blayney, paid $9000 for the first lot, Moogenilla J47 by Carabar Docklands D62 (AI), as an outcross sire for their stud herd weighing 898kg and with a 42.5cm scrotal circumference.
“We were looking for a different bloodline bull and he fits our picture,” Mr Bannerman said.
Second top price at $10,000 was another Docklands son, Moogenilla J117, a growthy bull fitting within the top 10pc of the Angus Breeding Indexes and purchased by Colin Spencer, “Sunnybrook”, Barellan.
This bull weighed 896ks and 43cm scrotal circumference.
This best yet result was auctioned by Luke Whitty of Kevin Miller Whitty Lennon and Company, Forbes.
