A NEW national record average for Hereford and Poll Hereford bulls was achieved at the 54th annual Yalgoo Poll Herefords bull sale at Walcha on Monday, when 38 bulls sold to a top of $32,000 and average of $8881.
The sale had support from both stud and commercial clients, with bulls going to buyers in NSW, Queensland and Tasmania.
The top bull, Yalgoo Jet J157, by NJW 73S M362 Trust 100W from Yalgoo Donna Bella D040, sold to Matt Kelley, Warragundi Poll Herefords, "Warragundi West", Currabubula.
The 23-month-old bull weighed 820 kilograms, had a scrotal circumference of 40 centimetres and had estimated breeding values of +3.2 for birthweight, +36 for 200-day weight, +60 for 400-day weight, +80 for 600-day weight, +21 for milk, and +5.4 for eye muscle area (EMA).
The sale included 10 bulls from nearby stud Ivy Bank Poll Herefords.
All bulls offered were sold to a top of $8000 and average of $5200.
The top-priced Ivy Bank bull, Ivy Bank Jock J58, was purchased by Max Mawhinney, "Kentucky Blue", Walcha.
The 21-month-old bull by Yalgoo Zed F190 from Ivy Bank Magic F18, weighed 840kg and had EBVs of +42 for 200-day weight, +60 for 4000-day weight, +90 for 600-day weight, +20 for milk and +3.5 for EMA.
The sale's volume buyer was Damien Glass, "Winderadeen", Collector, who purchased five Yalgoo bulls averaging $7600 as well as an Ivy Bank bull for $4500.
The sale was conducted by Elders Walcha, with Andy McGeoch, Elders studstock, auctioneering.
