PETER and Pam Wallace, ''Culverley Rise'', Bungowannah, penned nine Angus steers 10 months old, with an average weight of 305 kilograms and received $885 at Wodonga last Thursday.
"We are very happy with these prices ... it works out just a bit under 300 cents a kilogram and is 30 per cent up on last year," Mr Wallace said.
They also sold 11 Angus heifers weighing 300kg for $800.
This is the second draft of steers Mr Wallace has sold this year and he said similar steers last year made $700.
The Wallace operation is a typically mixed farm, with half cropping and half given over to sheep and cattle.
They have been breeding Angus cattle for some time because the prices offered are a premium on other breeds.
"Angus do very well on our country and we aim at breeding weaners with a weight and frame that will be attractive for finishers or feedlots to finish," said Mr Wallace (pictured with wife Pam).
They have had a reasonable autumn break and although it has now turned frosty and cold, they hope sufficient rain will fall through winter to give them a good spring.
"We have some pasture growth but will supplement the stock through the winter if necessary," Mr Wallace said.
