THE first ever export of live slaughter cattle bound for China flew out of Melbourne’s Tullamarine airport yesterday.
The jumbo jet, or 747-400 cargo plane, has a small consignment of 170 steers, principally Angus and Angus cross, on board that will make the 12 hour journey to Chongqing in Southwest China.
It is the first and only permit granted under the historical cattle health protocol agreement which was signed between the Australian and Chinese government mid-august.
