A NEW record price of $20,000 for a Woonallee female was set the stud’s recent female sale.
Held at Furner, South Australia, by vendors Tom and Lizzy Baker, Woonalee Simmentals, the limelight was stolen when the black Woonallee Razzle Dazzle K276 walked into the ring and the bidding stepped up another gear.
All up, 38 Simmental female lots, one Simbrah female, five pregnant embryo recipients and three semen packages were offered, of which, 47 sold to gross $314,750.
Razzle Dazzle was by Mr Hoc Broker and mated to Webb Uppercut H613.
As with the earlier high sellers in this sale, the bidding rapidly rose, this time to $15,000, then a final burst through to $20,000.
The winning bidders included Regan, Karen and Trevor Burow, Yerwal Estate Simmentals, Lucindale, SA, and Mervyn and Courtney Newland, Lavarta Simmentals, Toowoomba, Queensland, were underbidders.
“Heifers of this genetic quality don’t come up often. She offers us outcross genetics and is a potential donor female in our program, saving us a trip to Canada to try to find something like her,” Regan Burow said.
The $16,000 top-priced cow and calf Woonallee Vasti J45 with an April-drop heifer calf by Woonallee Dimension, was offered as one of the 15 proven cows.
Vasti was a late replacement from the top of the herd and depastured with Willandra Gomez.
Brett Nobbs, Nobbs Cattle Company, Duaringa, Queensland, outbid the competition, paying $16,000.
The 15 proven cows averaged $7100.
C.J. and D.M. Love, Round Mountain near Murwillimbah, were prominent volume buyers in the Simmental females.
They purchased four, paying to $4500 and averaged $4125.
The Loves paid another $3000 for the one red Simbrah heifer.
Brian Cullis, Maybethistime stud, Bermagui, averaged $4250 for two females.
The recipient cows with embryos topped at $6500 to the Fairburn family, Fairhaven Simmentals, Kingaroy, Qld, for a traditional Simmental pregnancy.
Stuart Moack, Valley Creek Simmentals, Bowral, paid $5000 for a black SImmental embryo.
Three semen lots of 10 straws averaged $250/straw.
The sale was conducted Elders Naracoorte, SA, with auctineer, Ben Finch.
