THE Merriman family of Merryville stud, Boorowa has triumphed at the Sydney Royal, taking out the supreme Merino exhibit.
By Merryville 14 Syndicate, the 18.3-micron August/September drop 2014 ram became the toast of the show after first winning his fine medium four-tooth March shorn ram class, before making his way to be sashed champion and grand champion March shorn ram.
Stud principal, Wal Merriman, said it was the ram’s first showing.
“I always keep a few back for Sydney,” he said.
“The original plan was to have him in the two-tooth class, but he cut his other two teeth a week or more ago.”
Fine/medium wool judge, John Roberts, Dubbo, said he has great sire potential.
“When I was judging this ram in the fine/medium class, I thought he could go all the way, and he did,” Mr Roberts said.
“He has beautiful skin, great deep staple, I think he will make a tremendous sire”.
The supreme Merino ewe exhibit was shown by the Rayner family of Grathlyn stud, Hargraves with a superfine stunner.
