COLIN Tink and family of BT Brahmans, Dubbo, stole the limelight at the Sydney Royal Show with a pair of females, picking up the junior and senior female broadribbons.
The junior champion, BT Aria, sired by Kenrol Sandman 0444 and from Langley Dale Aria, caught the eye of judge, Greg Radel, Injune, Queensland, early in the day before going on to win best exhibit.
Mr Tink was pleased with the 17-month-old heifer’s win and was even more chuffed when his next exhibit, BT Rosetta, took out senior champion female.
Mr Tink had high hopes the four-and-a-half year old, sired by BT Allamo and from Bidgee View Rose, would take the title this year.
“She was shown at the Sydney Royal as a small calf and has been to every show here in the last couple of years. She won her class last year and it’s very pleasing to see her do so well this year,” Mr Tink said.
The family, which were assisted at the Royal by five students from St Johns College, Dubbo, had been exhibiting at Sydney for six years but this year was “by far” their best.
They will take the two females to the World Brahman Congress at Rockhampton, Qld, in May.
The stud had great success at last year’s Sydney Royal too, taking home five broadribbons.
Scone breeder Haley Ellis cheered as she watched her top bull Langley Dale Eric take out the senior bull title and later, grand champion bull.
“He was last year’s junior champion and he’s come back to win senior champion bull which is fantastic,” she said.
He weighed 662 kilograms and was sired by Batandra Eric and from Bioka Madame Juniper 767.
Ms Ellis, who started the small stud in 2011, said she would soon retire the bull.
“I’ve got one calf by him on the ground now and I hope to have his progeny by the end of next year,” Ms Ellis said.
Ms Ellis focuses on breeding compact and solid bulls. She said recently her bulls had been purchased by clients in the southern NSW and Victoria.
The junior champion bull went to Bundella Dirk, bred by Bill and Vicky Braun, Blackville.
The 18-month-old bull which weighed 645kg was sired by Reldarah Renshaw and was from Topline Miss Karina Manso 1475.
He outclassed Wingen breeders Scott and Elaine Edwards’ Palmvale Patti 3397 to take the title.
Mr Braun said he was surprised by the young bull’s performance.
“He’s only been to two small shows prior to this one,” Mr Braun said.
“We thought he would do well but we didn’t expect a result like this.”
