NARROMINE graziers Peter and Kim Griffith have used the rising lamb market to their advantage, selling their Dohne lambs at the Dubbo prime lamb sale on Monday.

“The market was up a bit and we were really pleased when our lambs sold for $131 a head,” Mrs Griffith said.
They sold 120 head which were estimated to weigh 50 kilograms (liveweight) at about nine months.
“We bought the lambs in December from Cunnamulla in Queensland and we were pretty happy with the way they have performed, considering they were hit by a dry spell in the middle,” she said.
Mrs Griffith said this was the first time they had bought in Dohne lambs to finish on their 486-hectare property “Karim”.
“It’s worked well for us this time, so I’m sure we will be looking at doing it again,” she said. All up 23,900 lambs were sold at Dubbo on Monday – up about 6000 head on the week before. The National Livestock Reporting Service said trade lambs were $3 to $5 a head dearer and 18kg to 24kg (carcase weight) lambs topped at $159.
