FORMER brilliant Melbourne sprinter, Kaphero had a notable city winning juvenile double recently when his daughter Showpero and son Ashero each won their respective races at Morphettville.
Trained at Goolwa by David Jolly, Showpero made it two wins from two starts, and the Adelaide prepared Ashero was taking his first win from two starts.
A son of Danehill’s champion two-year-old Danzero, Kaphero stands at Riverdene Stud, Wagga Wagga.
Kaphero has sired more than 80 winners with a 57 per cent strike rate winning. Other Kaphero winners include Melbourne stakes horse Stingray, who was second in the Vain Stakes-G3 at Caulfield, and group 1 Singapore sprinter Super Winner, emerging from his first three crops racing.
Beginning his stud career in Victoria, many of Kaphero’s winners appear in that state as well as South Australia.
Kaphero himself was a Moonee Valley Horse Of The Year and group winning specialist, and proved popular with the Melbourne racing crowd. He won 10 races – six at Moonee Valley including the 1000 metres Ian McEwen Stakes-G3 – and placed in another four at the Melbourne track including third in the group 1 Manikato Stakes behind to Typhoon Zed and Absolut Glam.
Kaphero stands alongside another sire of winners, Strada.
By Danehill, Strada can count Grande Punto at Rosehill, Miss You Ma at Gosford, and Culpo at Cessnock as recent winners.
Strada has proven he can sire winners of all ages, both colts and fillies who can win over varying distances from sprints to staying classics. His winners of more than 136 results to a healthy 61pc of his runners becoming winners.
Strada son and South Australian stakes-winning marvel Hioctdane displayed his liking for distance when winning eight races including two stakes and was second in the group 1 South Australian Derby, while Perth stakes winning competitor, Gold Broker, finished fourth in the group 2 Western Australian Derby.
Another success in Perth was speedy sprinter Seattle Strada who has won nine races including four stakes-winning sprint tests.
A dual Sydney stakes winner himself, Strada more recently has been represented with Sydney stakes filly Sweet Kiss, and current metropolitan competitors Strada Lodge, Grande Punto and Painte.
