AN overflowing buyers gallery filled with new and repeat clients pushed the sale average to $9260 at the 13th annual Cascade Poll Hereford and Angus sale near Currabubula last Wednesday.
All 33 Poll Hereford bulls sold to a top of $16,000 twice and averaged $9878 whilst the 36 strong Angus draft topped at $18,000 and averaged $8644.
The overall sale top, Cascade Kingston K104, sold to loyal clients Murrunjai Pastoral Company, Willow Tree for $18,000.
Livestock manager, Keith Jones along with agent, Mike Wilson, Armidale, selected the 862 kilogram Braveheart of Stern son out of a Vermont Dateline daughter for his correct conformation.
With raw data measures of 124 square centimetres for eye muscle area (EMA), 46cm for scrotal circumference, 7 and 12mm for rib and rump and and 5.9 per cent for intramuscular fat (IMF), K104 measured in the top one per cent of the breed for EMA with + 10 and the top 5 per cent with +2 for retail beef yield (RBY).
The 24 month-old bull will join the 2000 head commercial Angus herd at Murrunjai where they turn off steers for the feedlot market.
The Poll Hereford draft topped at $16,000 twice with both bulls heading to separate operations in Tasmania. Cascade Kojak K10, a 25 month-old Cascade Hocus Pocus son, attracted the eye of first time buyers, David and Bev Bresnehan, Greenwood Poll Herefords, Triabunna.
Weighing in at 950kg, K10 measured in the top 5 per cent for IMF and above average for all indexes. The Bresnehan’s were looking for a big framed, well muscled bull to use in their small stud and commercial operations. K10 had figures of 131cmsq for EMA, 9 and 13mm on the rib and rump, 41cm scrotal circumference and 6.3 per cent for IMF.
Gary Clarke, Shangrila Poll Herefords, Ridgley, Tas returned to secure his third purchase from Cascade, Bobanken Konrad K13 for $16,000.
The Mountain Valley Rockyned breeding on the sire’s side was one of the draw cards for Mr Clarke along with the 24 month-old’s raw figures, weighing in at 934kg and measuring an EMA of 131cmsq, 44.5cm for scrotal and 5.9 per cent for IMF.
Volume buyer on the day was Leppington Pastoral Company, Wyalong, who secured 11 bulls to average $6363 including seven Angus bulls averaging $6857 and four Poll Hereford Bulls to average $5500.
Stud manager, Jack Smith, was overwhelmed with the result so much he closed with sale with a summarising statement of “bloody hell’.
