A large crowd turned out to the Caldwell family’s Milwillah Angus bull sale at Young last week to watch the rain come down and the bulls go up. A top of $36,000 was reached for Milwillah Reality K92 with 96 of the 101 bulls offered selling for an $8802 average price.
A partnership of Buchan Station, East Gippsland, Victoria, and Murdeduke Angus, Winchelsea, Vic, formed to purchase K92 a son of the imported New Zealand AI sire Matauri Reality 839 out of a Coonamble Elevator E11 daughter with ABS Australia securing the worldwide marketing rights in the bull.
Lachie Wilson, Murdeduke Angus who have spring walking rights said he will be used in the stud. “He is the best Reality son we have found, for his temperament, structure, and muscle pattern,” Mr Wilson said.
Sam Hayden, Buchan Station, said they liked his balance, structure, muscle, and eye appeal.
This is not the first top price Buchan Station have purchased at Milwillah with 2014 top price Milwillah Elsom H283 already in sire battery.
The support from seedstock producers continued with both Hazeldean Angus, Cooma, and Bongongo Angus, Coolac, both purchasing EF Complement 8088 sons.
Hazeldean paid $28,000 for Milwillah Complement K108 out of a TeMania Emperor E343 daughter from the Mittagong cow family. While Bongongo paid $22,000 for Milwillah Complement L7 out of an Ardrossan Equator A241 daughter from the Dream cow family.
Long time client and seedstock producer Betty Roach, Arden Angus, Adelong, purchased a stand-out son of Milwillah Ada G211, Milwillah Ada K335 to add to her sire battery for $12,000.
Kriden Inn, Forest Reefs, put on a show, purchasing three bulls to average $17,667 with a top of $21,000.
Elders Goondiwindi lead the volume buyers putting together a draft of 12 bulls with a top price of $11,000, and an average of $8083. While Coolac Cattle Co, ‘Cooininee”, Coolac, averaged $9667 for six bulls paying to $12,000 twice.
Milwillah principal Will Caldwell said he was overwhelmed with the result and glad with the decision to once again increase the number of bulls this year.
"We want to ensure value and that our clients have access to the latest genetics available both domestically and abroad,” Mr Caldwell said. "We are in the business of improving profitability through genetic progression, with this there is an element of risk but with risk comes reward.”
The sale was conducted by agents in conjunction Elders and Landmark with Andy McGeoch, Joe Wilks, and Andrew Wishart tallying the bids.
