Sunny conditions greeted the highest Angus stud on the Monaro last Friday for the Lynch family’s Kunuma Angus 34th bull sale.
Changing to a spring sale on the Monaro the Lynch family cleared 17 of the 23 bulls offered to a top of $8000 and an average price of $5618 recorded.
O’Laughlin Pastoral, Tarwin Lower, Victoria, bought the top-price bull, Kunuma Kurt K119, an 880 kilogram son of the Kunuma G73 sire who sired large portion of the offering, out of a Kunuma C36 daughter for $8000.
O’Laughlin Pastoral also purchased the second top Kunuma Kipp K69, a Carabar Docklands D62 son weighing in at 780kg and out of a Tuwharetoa A49 daughter, for $7500 as well as one other for a $6500 average on three bulls.
Fellow Southern Gippsland buyer Elm Valley Pty Ltd, Korumburra, Vic, led the volume buyers purchasing four bulls for an average price of $5625, paying to a top of $6500 twice for Kunuma K27 and Kunuma K48 both BT Right Time 24J grandsons.
Both Kieran O’Laughlin, O’Laughlin Pastoral, and John Weston, Elm Valley, who represented son Phil, have been long-term Kunuma clients of nine years, and both sell progeny as weaners predominantly to Gippsland grass finishers.
Mr Weston said “the bulls are good commercial bulls that do the job for us, hence we keep coming back”.
“We look at the angus breeding index and try to maximise growth while maintaining a moderate birth weight,” Mr O’Laughlin said “
“The best calf is a live calf.”
B.R. and H.A. Read, “South Lanyon”, Tharwa, purchased Kunuma King K3, a 826kg son of BT Right Time 24J from a Kunuma C36 daughter, for $7000
While F.E. and D.C. Constance, “Burrunga”, Peak View, also paid $7000 for their selection, Kunuma Kelvin K129, another Kunuma G73 son weighing in at $870kg, again from a Kunuma C36 daughter.
Jervois Pastoral, “Highfields”, Tumbarumba contributed purchasing three bulls at $4000 for their breeding eneterprise.
