It was all action at friday’s Armdale and Armdale Park Poll Dorset ram sale at Marrar as a large gallery battled muddy conditions.
The Armstrong family offered and sold 220 Poll Dorset rams in total for an overall average of $1920.
The 24 stud rams sold to strong demand reaching a top of $14,000 as they worked towards a $5115 average, while 196 flocks rams averaged $1529 and topped at $2500.
Bringing the top money of $14,000 was Armdale Park 107-15, a son of Armdale Park 9-13 with Stock Scan figures of 10 millimetres for fat and an eye muscle area (EMA) of 43.66 centimetres squared. he found his new home at Gilmore Poll Dorset stud, Yeoval.
Gilmore Poll Dorset principal Les Ryan said he was a big powerful ram that was hard to fault.
“We came to buy after seeing him at Cowra Dorset Championships,” Mr Ryan said.
“We are drawn to the Armdale - Armdale Park rams as they are factual rams with performance, big and strong and chock full of meat.”
“They are what the commercial producer want, what the processor wants, and what the consumer wants”. The Ryans added a second stud ram to their selection for $4000.
The second top money of $12,000 was paid by Robert Love, Violet Town, Victoria, a long-time supporter of Armdale - Armdale Park for Armdale 1-15, another son of Armdale Park 9-13 with Stock Scan figures of 12mm for fat and 42.03cmsq for EMA.
Mr Love said he was drawn to the ram for his length, width, bone, and temperament. “I like his expression of muscle in the back leg,” Mr Love said. “The muscle on the outside of hock indicates he should have a big eye muscle which the Stock Scan figures verify.”
Leading the volume buyers was Marra Agencies, Marra, who secured 17 rams for their draft reaching highs of $1800 as they worked towards a $1535 average. J.R. and S.A. Davies, “Lake Midgeon”, Narrandera, averaged $1708 for their draft of 12 paying to a top of $1800.
