A RARE opportunity to nab a slice of farming country in the tightly held Mowlma Creek district near Coonamble has arisen.
Mick and Anna Altus are selling off their 914 hectare farming block, “Mowlma Creek”.
The couple own multiple farms in the Coonamble district and are selling to focus on other commitments.
There are no internal fences on "Mowlma Creek" so it’s beautiful farming on long straight rows.

They have owned “Mowlma Creek”, 800 hectares of which are arable, for 15 years now.
In 2016 they sowed the block to wheat which produced 4.3 tonnes to the hectare.
“We were extremely happy with the yield. It was a great result,” Mr Altus said.
In the past they’ve grown sunflowers, sorghum and chickpeas.
“There are no internal fences on the place so it’s beautiful farming on long straight rows,” he said.
The creek flooded in 2016. Soil moisture levels would be perfect for the new owner to plant right into.
“The place receives beneficial flooding out of Mowlma Creek which is a backwater run out of the Castlereagh River. You don’t get flooding every year but you do get it quite often and when you do you have a chance to double crop.”
Mr Altus said no improvements were needed to the property.
“Mowlma Creek” is to be sold by tender through Halcroft and Bennett agents, with David Thompson handling the sale. Tenders close at 12pm on January 16.
It is 47 kilometres north of Coonamble and 68km from Walgett.
