Three studs cleared 65 rams for an average of $980 and top of $2200 at the inaugural combined production sale of B and B Farms, Rocky Glen; Bok Dorpers, Attunga and Lynkm Springs Dorpers and White Dorpers, Cervantes, Western Australia, held at Dubbo showground last Wednesday.
B and B Farms principle Phillip Van Schalkwyk, Rocky Glen, sold the sale-topper included in his draft of 11 White Dorper rams which averaged $960.
The top ram, weighing 95 kilograms March 2015-drop was purchased by Pat McGuinness, Jerrara stud, Hilston.
His draft of seven Dorper rams topped to $1200 twice averaging $685.
Thirty five Australian White rams cleared three with a top to $2200 an average of $960.
Bok Dorpers, Attunga, offered 16 Dorper rams for a clearance of eight, a top to $1100 and an average of $837.
Top seller in this draft, a 106.5kg June 2015-drop ram was sold to N.J Gett and Sons, Narrabri.
Lynkm Springs Dorpers and White Dorpers, Cervantes, Western Australia offered nine Dorper rams to clear four, for a top of $1400 and the top average for the day of $1050, 38 White Dorper rams to clear nine and a top to $1600 average of $1015.
Volume and top-price Dorper purchasers Michael and Sharon Hibbens, Bilgamma Dorpers, Wee Waa took home the Lynkm Springs, November 2015-drop, 76 kg, Type 3 ram.
“We are looking to bring new blood lines in to improve the stock we already have both our stud and commercial enterprises. They are good meaty rams, good shedding animals and have a low worm burden which is a big plus,” Mrs Hibbens said.
The Hibbens purchased a draft of five rams averaging $805.
Harry Simmons, Lower Plains, St George, Queensland, purchased eight White Dorper rams to an average of $912.
“These rams are clean shedding, robust rams that have an affordable price. Ram prices are pretty high lately and it's hard for the commercial blokes to get what they are chasing,” Mr Simmons said.
Phillip Van Schalkwyk, BB Farms, one of the vendors at the sale was a little disappointed and would have liked a better clearance.
“I want to thank all of the buyers who did rock up and buy some rams,” he said.
Selling agents were Elders Gunnedah with auctioneer Paul Jameson controlling the bids.
