Hunter Valley stud Berdihold Limousins claimed grand champion beef exhibit at Casino Beef Week on Saturday, with Kate Gelderman parading a Royal favourite.
Rising two year old Flemington Like A Cat L22 was sashed reserve intermediate champion last year at Melbourne and progressed at Sydney to claim intermediate champ, with impressed Albertan judge Rob Dixon describing him as a ‘herd changer’.
At Casino, Judge Tom Baker, Furner, South Australia, described the royal champion as most complete with length, depth and efficiency. Next stop is Ekka for this progeny of the apricot bull Flemington Exception from Goldstar Zephyr D45, black poll.
Mr Baker sashed a Charolais as supreme female. PalmView Fantasy, 41 months, was exhibited by Laurie Tillman, Cedar Point via Kyogle, who takes care of his end of the tricky embryo transfer work. She is the progeny of Candians – by Redsmoke from JWX Fantasy – and exhibited with her second calf, this one by Mr TR Firewater, which weighed 220kg at 14 weeks.
Junior bull was awarded to a 17 month old bull exhibited by Jeremy Cruickshank, Piora via Casino, by Rio Bravo from Palgrove Bronwyn, a foundation donor cow that is becoming the basis for Mr Cuickshank’s herd.
Junior female went to the black Limousin, Oakvale Maddy, by Labella Limousins exhibited by Georgia Perkins.
Champion led steer at Casino Beef Week, exhibited by the Nicholls family, Rukenvale via Kyogle, who have quite a collection of these ribbons, and as dairyfarmers understand the need for feed, quietly mixing their award winning concoctions away from prying eyes.
Reserve champion steer was a Speckle Park/ Limousin bred and prepared into a ball of muscle by exhibitor David Bartley, Warwick.
