Raelene Higgins, Curlewis, was stoked when her horse, Hellish, sold for $42,000 at the weekend’s 2017 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Select Cutting Horse sale at Tamworth.
Bred from NCHA Hall of Fame entrant, One Hellofa Spin, with earnings of more than $153,000, the yearling chestnut filly’s new home was secured when the $42,000 phone bid was knocked down to SDM Quarter Horses, Goondiwindi, Queensland.
“With her dam being One Hellofa Spin, she was hard to go past. Plus we have a bit of a background with her sire, SR Instant Choice,” said SDM Quarter Horses representative Andrea McCosker. “At this point she will most likely go to Todd (Graham) to complete her cutting training for the 2019 Futurity.”
Second top was for filly entered by Karen Thrun, Mount Compass, South Australia. The Koonamara Spoonfula Badge cross Chickasha Hope chestnut yearling made $31,000 and was purchased by Tri Star Quarter Horses, Whittlesea, Victoria. The sale averaged $11,567, with 69 of the 93 lots sold.
