A STRONG buying contingent helped push prices for quality steers to $1340 a head at the Central Tablelands Livestock Exchange (CTLX), Carcoar, on Friday.
Agents were kept on their toes yarding up and then selling about 4380 cattle for the monthly sale.
The market overall was strong and most trends were on par with last month’s sale.
In light of the way both the prime and store cattle markets have been holding up for the start of winter, the quality was excellent and vendors walked away happy with the prices for their stock.
Weaner steers ranged from $770 to $1340, while the weaner heifers topped at $1120 according to National Livestock Reporting Service figures.
Breaking down the weight ranges for the weaner steers, those weighing less than 200 kilograms sold from $775 to $900; the 200kg to 280kg range sold from $770 to $1140; those from 280kg to 330kg made $960 to $1230, and the lines weighing more than 300kg ranged from $1125 to $1340.
A big chunk of the weaner heifers offered were Angus between 200kg and 280kg and they averaged $876.
The yearling steers sold from $920 to $1250 and yearling heifers ranged from $550 to $1115.
Quality breeding females were in demand and sold from about $800 to $2250 for those pregnancy-tested-in-calf (PTIC).
Some of the cows with calves lacked condition, but still sold well ranging from $1300 to $2675.
PTIC cows with calves sold from $1950 to $2350.
The sale was conducted by Central Tablelands Livestock Agents Association.
