AFTER an absence from the stud show and sale ring for a number of years Armidale district beef producer Ross Anderson returned to enter Red Angus breeding circles by purchasing the $21,000 top-priced junior and grand champion bull and three heifers for an average $9875.
His purchases at the inaugural Red Angus and Simmental breeds’ national show and sale at Dubbo helped cement the fixture’s success.
In the Red Angus section an 84 per cent auction clearance was effected for 26 of 29 bulls topping at $21,000 to average $8038 and 12 of 16 females selling to $7500 to average $5400.
Currently Mr Anderson is running 100 cattle and said he was impressed with the Red Angus breed and would begin a stud herd at “Wattylbee”, Arding.
The grand champion, Goondoola Latitude L25 by Red Wilbar Longitude 646Y weighed 902 kilograms at rising 20 months and had an eye muscle area of 133 square centimetres when shown by the Powe family’s Goondoola stud, Cargo.
Mr Anderson said the reason he bought the champion was because of the strength and volume and he would be the foundation sire of the stud he planned to form.
“He will produce the muscularity and growth in his progeny I am looking for,” he said.
Included in the heifer buys was the $7500 top-priced female, Goondoola M04, the 14-16 months class winner sired by DMM Creed 75W, and $5000 junior and grand champion female, Hobbs Livestock Dina’s Heartbreaker shown by Stuart and Kylie Hobbs, Molong.
