BIDDING reached a high of $18,000 at the 56th annual Yagoo Poll Herefords bull sale at “Yalgoo”, Walcha, on Monday.
Forty eight of the 49 bulls offered by the Nivison family’s Yalgoo Partnership sold for an average of $9437.
There was strong interest from stud and commercial producers, with the top three bulls going to NSW and Victoria studs.
First-time Yalgoo buyers Jeff and Robyn Holcombe, Rayleigh Poll Herefords, Burren Junction, took home the top bull, Yalgoo Knickerbocker L205.
The 22-month-old son of Yalgoo Break Out G075 and Yalgoo Vanessa E054 weighed 854 kilograms, with a scrotal circumference of 40.5 centimetres, and estimated breeding values (EBVs) of +36, +62 and +93 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight.
Mr Holcombe said the bull, who will be used in the stud, had good muscle and a balanced set of EBVs.
Yalgoo Jolt L178, another Break Out son, from Yalgoo Belle Kashmir E175, made $13,500, selling to Victorian stud producers Paul and Judi Sykes, Karoonda Herefords, “Karoonda Park”, Gelantipy.
The 22-month-old, 802kg bull had a scrotal circumference of 42cm and EBVs of +3.6 for birthweight, and +29, +51 and +73 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight.
Yalgoo Vanquish L130, a 23-month-old bull by Yalgoo Zed F190 and Yalgoo Vanessa D021, sold to James and Sandy Higgins, Curracabark Herefords, Gloucester.
The bull weighed 822kg with a scrotal circumference of 39.5cm and had EBVs of +31, +54 and +81 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight.
Three bulls – Churchill Stud 3134A sons Yalgoo Tornado L263 and Yalgoo Tornado L269; and Yalgoo Lever L076, by Yalgoo Thunderbird J149 – made $12,000, and Yalgoo Tornado L283, another Churchill Stud 3134A son, made $11,500.
Six bulls – Yalgoo Break Out L279, Yalgoo Juror L071, Yalgoo Tornado L274, Yalgoo Krishna L096, Yalgoo Break Out L278 and Yalgoo Break Out L262 – sold for $11,000.
Wariwck Large, Woodbrook Vineyard Pty Ltd, Gulgong, was the volume buyer, taking home 11 bulls for a top of $10,000 three times and an average of $16,636.
Repeat volume buyer Damien Glass, "Winderadeen", Collector, bought seven bulls topping at $11,500 and averaging $10,785, and Winterthur Pty Ltd, “Bonny Rigg”, Quirindi, purchased five bulls averaging $9600.
The sale included six bulls from Allan Green at nearby stud Ivy Bank Poll Herefords, with five selling for $4000 each.
Elders Walcha settled the sale, with Andy McGeoch, Elders Stud Stock, taking the bids.
