For more than 35 years, US based S&W Seed Company has been operating with a focus on lucerne.
A company spokesman believes S&W breed and deliver products of the highest quality with improved genetic traits and that have a unique ability to grow in tough soils to produce excellent yields.
Although people may think S&W are not a local company, that is not entirely true.
Developments in the southern hemisphere, saw S&W acquire Seed Genetics International (SGI) in April 2013, followed by the acquisition of SV Genetics (SVG), based in Toowoomba, Queensland, in May 2016.
These acquisitions of homegrown companies enables S&W to offer premium sunflower, grain sorghum, forage sorghum, lucerne and clover products to Australian farmers.
Other investments have included the purchase of the non-GMO lucerne germplasm, operations, assets and research facilities from Pioneer/DuPont.
This acquisition means the company will be able to offer products from the elite program in Australia in the future.
S&W aims to continue staying ahead of the curve through the development of next generation varieties and the use of new breeding techniques designed to meet the future challenges of farmers.
