In the first sale of the new year Narromine special store sheep sale attracted 12,500 head and more than 100 enthusiasts.

MORE than 100 sheep enthusiasts including buyers, under-bidders and lookers mainly from the Central Tablelands vied for the 12,500 head yarded at January’s Narromine store sheep sale last Wednesday.

Main buyers from Orange, Cowra, Woodstock, Forbes, Dubbo and local paid up to $278 for first-cross ewes and $202 for Merino ewes while Dohne wethers made $103.

Jason Hartin of Hartin Schute Bell, Narromine, said the yarding represented a very good line-up of quality sheep.

“Store lambs might have been a bit cheaper reflecting the current market, but quality breeding sheep sold extremely well,” he said.

Returning with their annual draft of first-cross ewes, Warren and Lorraine Skinner and family, “Deloraine”, Wyanga between Tomingley and Narromine, topped the sale at $278 for 152 April 2017 drop, October shorn to the Cowra district.

Tom and Louise Woods, “Lockwood”, Narromine, were not far behind in price at $270 a head for 132 March/April 2017 drop September shorn first-cross ewes to the same district while Paul Baker, “Scarborough Lodge”, Geurie, gained $234 each for 198 first-cross ewes of the same description and shearing.

A dispersal of Wayne and Sylvia Mawbey’s “Cairnie Hill” Merino flock, Wongarbon, resulted in 422 June/July 2016 drop of Tabula blood made $202, the same price for 366 of their 2015 drop.

Andrew and Kathy Wall and family of Wall and Niendorf, Langidoon Station, Little Topar, gained $176 each for 400 Samm/Merino cross ewes, June/July 2016 drop, September shorn.
